pdroms.de has organized another coding competition, running in the time from January 24th to March 2nd, 2008.

The goal is to create any kind of childproof game, using a maximum of four colors at once per scene for at least one of these systems:

Atari 2600, Coleco Vision, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Game Gear, Genesis/Megadrive, GP2x, Intellivision, Master System, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Nintendo DS, PC Engine, Playstation Portable (PSP), Wonderswan, Wonderswan Color

Don’t teach when you have no idea

In the past months I observed the phenomenon that especially beginners seem to really want to share stuff they just figured out and throw it together in some sort of tutorials, often accompanied by source code. While the idea to help is definitely not wrong, but in this particular situation the provided information is (probably) rather harmful.

Personally I also don’t get the point why it seems so important to release the 1001st xyz example, usually with a comment like “I just threw it together and thought it might be helpful for some noobs”. If I would have a webcam, you could see me throw my hands up in horror while looking at those master-pieces.
