Talisman GBA released

Posted by Peter Schraut under GBA

A few days ago, freakyV released a complete port of the Talisman 3rd edition boardgame for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

The game is a fantasy adventure game with a random card mechanic, using the HEL Library framework. You can download the game at mywiferocksproductions.com or from our local mirror.

HEL Library version 2.4 released

Posted by Peter Schraut under GBA, Programming

Version 2.4 fixes several bugs, such as in the Debug, DMA, Object and Palette Systems. Beside the fixes, I also extented Object Rotation/Scaling System and further optimized the Object System.

Download the latest version here, refer to the online documentation for the changelog.

HEL Library version 2.3 released

Posted by Peter Schraut under GBA, Programming

Version 2.3 fixes two bugs. One in the Background Text System, which occured only in combination with its dynamic tile reloading feature enabled and the other one in the Object System. I also created more sample projects, which serve as some kind of unit tests for me as well, to make sure every feature is still working before I push out a new version.

Beside the fixes, I changed the Pad System implementation a bit, which results in almost 100bytes less EWRAM usage and further optimized the Map System. Check the changelog for more details.

Julien Lallevé released a new version of his monkey game called bam?. Here is a list of the improvements, copied from his website:

  • You can now die four times before you lose all your objects (bananas and coins)
  • The number of monkey heads displayed on the screen shows how much lives you still have
  • The B button is now used to change the activated colors instead of L, it makes it easier to play
  • Jump frame ! It proves that MonkeyMonkey can ALSO be happy (… euphoric).
  • Some coding stuff you’ll never know about, and don’t even care. But it makes me happy to say it.

Head over to Julien’s site to play with the monkey: bam? – A Story of Bananas and Monochromatism

Spikeball released

Posted by Peter Schraut under GBA

I found another HAM/HEL based game in the news on gbadev.org today. The game is called Spikeball and looks like a pong game.

Download Griever308’s latest production here.

A new HAM/HEL platformer is finally seeing the light of day! A few days ago, Julien Lallevé released the first version of his game called Bam?

The mission is simple:

Collect enough bananas to activate the colored platforms and progress through the level!

To download the game, either forward your browser to Julien’s website and give him some feedback as he asks for, or simply get it from HEL Libraries Featured Projects section.

Pikilipita Advance

Posted by Peter Schraut under GBA

Do you think the Game Boy Advance is just to play games? Wrong! Clément Cordier demonstrates that the Game Boy Advance hardware can also be used to run his very own live video mixing software “Pikilipita Advance” to make the audience go nuts!

Head over to his website and watch some of his live performances or simply download his mixing software and become a star yourself. :-)

This product is obviously a total must have entry in the Featured Projects of HEL Library.

Same procedure as every year. The people from drunkencoders.com have organized another coding competition. This time you have to create a Nintendo DS or Game Boy Advance game with a holiday theme, deadline is the 1st January 2007.

Read everything about the competition at Drunkencoders Second Annual Christmas Game Coding Competition

I hope to see at least one HAM/HEL entry, don’t disappoint me! :-)
