  • Jasper “cearn” Vijn has written an article called DMA vs ARM9 – fight! He explains what problems you can run into when using DMA and gives a brief introduction to cache. He also provides images that show how it looks like when transfering data to Vram, that hasn’t been flushed or invalidated properly.
  • libnds has been updated to 1.3.4, more in the changelog.
  • I came across a project called Wintermute Engine which is a development kit to create Point & Click adventures for Microsoft Windows. If you’re looking for such engine, this might be for you, the games created with it look amazing at least.

console-dev.de update

Posted by Peter Schraut under Uncategorized

I finally managed to migrate console-dev.de to Web 2.0! I’m quite suprised how comfortable it’s to use a content management software. I used to update console-dev.de with notepad + xhtml so far :-)

I imported the entire console-dev.de news as well as the regular pages in the new system. I really hope I didn’t screw up anything, which is very unlikely though. Please let me know if you find something obscure and I’ll fix it asap.

Comments etc are enabled for everyone, you just need to verify you’re human using the reCAPTCHA system (hint: enable java-script to post).

Don’t teach when you have no idea

Posted by Peter Schraut under Uncategorized

In the past months I observed the phenomenon that especially beginners seem to really want to share stuff they just figured out and throw it together in some sort of tutorials, often accompanied by source code. While the idea to help is definitely not wrong, but in this particular situation the provided information is (probably) rather harmful.

Personally I also don’t get the point why it seems so important to release the 1001st xyz example, usually with a comment like “I just threw it together and thought it might be helpful for some noobs”. If I would have a webcam, you could see me throw my hands up in horror while looking at those master-pieces.

Anyway, I finally came across a website that discusses this topic and this is what this news entry is all about. Don’t miss to read the following sites:

Happy new year 2007

Posted by Peter Schraut under Uncategorized

The console-dev.de team wishes you a happy new year!

2006 was quite successful for HEL Library. It became very popular in the HAM community, almost every new HAM project now also uses HEL Library!

Beside the homebrew projects, I’m also very happy about the fact that HEL Library found its way into several commercial Game Boy Advance titles as well. It’s a pleasure for me to see HAM/HEL projects poping up. Keep them coming in 2007!

console-dev.de online again

Posted by Peter Schraut under Uncategorized

After almost two months, console-dev.de is up and running again.

Timo Buschmann himself take credit for this, he redesigned and rewrote all the pages using xHTML and CSS for higher compatibility issues. Thank you, I really like it!

All downloads should be available again as well. I also updated the Other Software and Links sections, as well as added a new tool: Katie.
